It’s KHO time! Yes, the second season of the Ultimate Kho Kho is here, and it brings all the excitement, entertainment and surprises you have been waiting for since the conclusion of the inaugural season.

The inaugural edition of Ultimate Kho Kho was received well by ardent fans of the indigenous sport, and the league is out to create a revolution once again with the new legion of talents whom the six franchise teams have signed up for the 2023-24 season.

But before that, let us answer some of the fundamental questions that are frequently asked.

When does Ultimate Kho Kho Season 2 start?

The latest season of UKK Season 2 begins on Sunday, December 24, 2023, with the league phase concluding on January 9, 2024. The Final will be held on January 13, 2024. 

Where will the Ultimate Kho Kho Season 2 be held?

The Ultimate Kho Kho Season 2 will be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Cuttack, Odisha.

What is the time duration of an Ultimate Kho Kho Season 2 match?

A UKK match is played in two halves. Each half will see a team get an opportunity to attack or defend for seven minutes. An interval and a short break between two turns are included.

Who are the attackers and defenders in an Ultimate Kho Kho Season 2 match?

After the toss between the two contesting teams, the toss-winning team might opt to attack or defend. The team that will attack are those who will ‘chase’ - make contact - the opposing players on the mat. The team that will defend comprises players who are ‘runners’ - aiming to avoid being touched.

How many players can take the field for an Ultimate Kho Kho Season 2 match?

Let’s start with attackers. Team ‘A’ will be the attackers, so they will field seven players (six sitting, one running) on the mat who will sit on the opposite half of the field their adjacent teammates are facing.

Team ‘B’ - the defenders - will send in three players as a batch. There will be 12 defenders (four batches of three defenders in each).

Who is a Wazir?

Like an ‘impact player’ in cricket, a Wazir is a runner with the license to run in any ‘direction’.

How are points awarded?

Regular tag: 2 points

This is the primary method of winning points. When an attacker manages to land a running touch on a defender, he will earn points for a regular tag.

Pole Dive: 2 points

If an attacker catches a defender while his hand is placed on the pole, they are rewarded points for a Pole Dive.

Sky Dive: 2 points

It's an exclusive move. As the name suggests, if an attacker successfully lands a touch on a running defender while in mid-air, they are rewarded with points for a Sky Dive.

Dream Run: 1 bonus point

If a batch of defenders avoids being eliminated for three minutes, they win 1 bonus point, and that spell of running is termed a ‘Dream Run’. If this same batch adds another 30 seconds to the clock until all three are ruled ‘out’, the team is rewarded an additional bonus point.

Who were the top performers in Ultimate Kho Kho Season 1?

Ramji Kashyap (Chennai Quick Guns) was the stand-out player in the inaugural season of Ultimate Kho Kho in 2022, topping the charts among attackers and defenders.

And among the dark horses, one player who stood out was Arun Gunki. The Telugu Yoddhas star registered most of his attack points (96) through Pole Dives.

Who will play the opening game of Ultimate Kho Kho Season 2?

Hosts and defending champions of Ultimate Kho Kho - Odisha Juggernauts - will take on Rajasthan Warriors in the curtain raiser of Ultimate Kho Kho Season 2.

Meanwhile, Telugu Yoddhas - runners-up of UKK Season 1 - will square off against Mumbai Khiladis in the second match on the opening day.

What is the format of Ultimate Kho Kho Season 2?

The Ultimate Kho Kho Season 2 will be played in a round-robin format, with the six franchise teams playing each other twice and 10 individual matches each.

Is there anything new? Yes. UKK Season 2 will have a new knockouts format. The teams finishing in the top four of the league phase will head-to-head in the semi-finals on January 11.

The third-place playoff match (played between the losing teams in the semi-finals) and the grand final of Ultimate Kho Kho Season 2 will be played on Saturday, January 13, 2023.
